Cybertruck recall dodgy fix leaves owners with more questions than answers

Tesla's Cybertruck, once called a bold entry into the electric cars market, is facing even more scrutiny after its recent recall fix left owners with more problems. The recall was prompted by a loose trim piece known as the cantrail, but it has now resulted in repairs that some owners are finding unacceptable for a vehicle in the $80,000 to $100,000 price range.

Tesla's solution to the "rebellious" piece of trim involves removing it, applying patches of butyl (seriously?), and securing it with new nuts. Unfortunately, it seems this process has led to visible panel gaps and what appears to be a burn or rust mark on the vehicle's chassis.

One Cybertruck owner from New Jersey shared images of the repair, revealing a sizable gap where the new nut was fitted. The owner also noticed a mark near the repair site, speculating it might be from a weld, even though the fix itself does not need any welding - apparently.

This whole situation raises a lot of questions about Tesla's quality control. While the company is fortunate to have a base of early adopters who are often more forgiving of initial production issues, the price point of the Cybertruck demands a higher standard of service and finish. Customers paying premium prices for electric cars expect a better product, not one with visible defects post-repair.

The recall and its less-than-ideal fix also created a headache for Cybertruck owners who have wrapped their vehicles. They now face the added expense and inconvenience of re-wrapping the affected trim, with no indication that Tesla will cover these costs.
