BYD

BYD's Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand recently teased its hardcore off-road EREV SUV, codenamed "SF model". Now, about a month ahead of its official announcement date, the SF model gets a name - "Leopard 5". Interestingly enough, the Fang Cheng Bao also has Leopard in its name, translated from Chinese.

Fang Cheng Bao's Leopard 5 will likely slot in between BYD's other two brands, the Denza and YangWang. That means the Leopard 5 will be priced between RMB 400,000 ($55,300) and 600,000 ($83,000).

And although there isn't much info about the vehicle itself, we know that it will be an extended range electric vehicle (EREV) based on the DM-o hybrid platform, which is touted to be more powerful and efficient than the existing DM-i and DM-p platforms from BYD. The maximum power output is rumored to be 544 hp, while the combined range is rated at up to 746 miles as per CLTC.

We'll be on the lookout for more details about the Leopard 5 and keep you posted as they arrive.
