Fiat

Free2move, Ample and Stellantis join forces on a battery swap project in Madrid, Spain, and after the testing period is now over, the three companies officially announced it's start. It's primarily aimed at providing a technical solution to the car-sharing market in the city. According to the companies involved, the battery swap service simplifies the use of EVs, reduces reliance on charging infrastructure, saves time, and cuts operational costs.

Stellantis has provided a fleet of 40 Fiat 500e at the time of writing, but should increase to 100 cars in the next few weeks to months.

The solution is flexible and scalable as it can work with various EV platforms, including the ones produced by Stellantis. The technology requires special modular batteries, though.

The whole process of battery swapping takes no more than 5 minutes, and the driver easily operates it via an app. The battery-swapping stations automatically recognize the Ample-enabled EVs.

The pilot program will give valuable insights to Stellantis, Free2move, and Ample that will help the companies expand this solution to other cities around the world.
