Geely's premium Galaxy brand is quickly becoming a familiar name in the Chinese EV market. Fresh off a period of explosive sales growth, the brand just pulled back the curtain a little on its upcoming flagship SUV. The Geely Galaxy M9 is a large vehicle designed to carry six people in comfort and style, and is set to heat things up in the big SUV market.
The Geely Galaxy M9 will sit at the top of the brand's lineup, likely carrying the highest price tag. Car companies in China often use the number nine to show a vehicle is their top model, and the M9 name suggests this SUV will be just that for Geely Galaxy. The company hasn't spilled all the beans yet, but they did say the M9 will come packed with advanced technology. The goal, apparently, is to make "more good times" for people who buy one. Don't you just love Chinese marketing?
Geely Galaxy is a relatively new nameplate, but it's growing incredibly fast. It started as a specific product line in early 2023 and was upgraded to a full brand this past March. The brand already has several models on the road, including the Xingyuan, L6, L7, E8, Starship 7, Starship 8, and the LEVC L380. This steady stream of new cars shows just how serious Geely is about building up the Galaxy brand and grabbing a bigger piece of the electric car market.
Recent sales numbers highlight Geely Galaxy's impressive rise. In April alone, the brand sold 96,632 vehicles, which is a massive jump of almost 660 percent compared to April of the previous year. Looking at the first four months of this year, Geely Galaxy sold 356,341 vehicles. That's an increase of nearly 600 percent over the same period last year. These figures show strong demand for Geely Galaxy's offerings and set the stage for the M9's arrival.
Spy photos believed to be of the new six-seat SUV reveal a camouflaged vehicle with writing on the side that mentioned Geely's G-Pilot driver assistance system. Geely announced this advanced system in March, making it available across its different brands.
Specific details about the M9's size are not yet public, but its positioning as a large, six-seat SUV means it will go head-to-head with other big vehicles in the market. For example, Geely's Lynk & Co brand recently launched the Lynk & Co 900, a large SUV that starts at RMB 309,900 (around $42,960 US Dollars). Another competitor is the Zeekr 9X, a large hybrid SUV from another Geely-owned brand, which was shown off in April and is expected to launch officially later this year.
