Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), a joint venture by Sony and Honda will make a major announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 4, the two companies confirmed today.

As Sony confirmed the date and time for its CES 2023 keynote the company also revealed that Sony Honda Mobility will be present on stage.

Sony Honda Mobility has not disclosed much about its upcoming vehicle, but what little it has said really gets our pulse racing. The joint venture expects to begin production of its first electric vehicle in 2026, with a focus on North American production and online sales in that market. Japan will be the second market, followed by a rollout in Europe.

That's all we have for now... That's all we have for now...

While many details have yet to be confirmed, Sony Honda Mobility has indicated that the car, which does not yet have a name, may be capable of Level 3 autonomous driving in certain conditions and Level 2+ in a wider range of settings. The company has also suggested that value will be added to the car through the use of subscription services. There have also been rumors that the car's infotaiment may include a full-blown PlayStation 5.

Honda will contribute its vehicle manufacturing expertise and engineering capabilities to the joint venture with Sony. It is not yet clear whether Honda or Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) will be responsible for after-sales support.

I want Sony to name this vehicle, it would be something like WH-1000XM5 RX 4x4 AWD ... just rolls off your tongue like every other Sony product. Just like my SRS-NS7 that had WLA-NS7 in package.
