Toyota Subaru Rumors

Toyota will build a three-row electric SUV for itself and one for Subaru starting at 2025 in its Kentucky factory. The report comes from people in the know, cited by Atomotive News.

Starting in 2025, Toyota will reportedly begin making its three-row EV SUV, which is tentatively called the bZ5X, first and shortly after will commence building Subaru's own three-row EV SUV. It's unclear whether the two vehicles will share the same base like the Subaru Solterra and the Toyota bZ4X, but it seems likely. Toyota and Subaru have a joint EV platform.

Toyota will assemble the electric SUVs at its Georgetown plant at which it currently builds the Camry, Camry Hybrid, the RAV4 Hybrid, and the Lexus ES. Toyota will equip the plant for EV production as part of a $461 million investment.

The batteries for the two EVs will likely be sourced from Toyota's Liberty, North Carolina plant. Toyota plans investments in the plant to the tune of $5.9 billion, which will make EV battery production possible. There will be six production lines in total - four for hybrid purposes and two for EVs.

Toyota and Subaru's three-row SUVs will be able to benefit from the full $7,500 federal tax credit - something the Solterra and bZ4X don't.

Subaru has vowed to release at least four electric crossovers in the US by the end of 2026, and it aims to have 40% of its global sales be electric by the "early 2030s".
