Xiaomi plans a trio of new EVs

Xiaomi

Xiaomi Auto is not waiting around for the next big thing, according to recent reports. The company apparently has an ambitious strategy to roll out three completely new EV models all at once. It seems Xiaomi is serious about building a full product line that touches every important part of the vehicle market: the family SUV, the high-speed performance, and the ultimate luxury sedan.

First of the trio is the large SUV known internally as the YU9. This vehicle is set to become Xiaomi’s flagship model for families. The YU9 is massive, measuring over 17.1 ft long - that’s longer than the Mercedes EQS SUV. Inside, the design allows for six or seven seats, making it perfect for bigger families. To fight range anxiety, Xiaomi is giving the YU9 an advanced extended-range EV system. This setup promises both pure-electric, clean driving for daily use and the ability to travel long distances without worry.

The YU9 is targeting well-established large premium EVs, taking direct aim at competitors like the Li Auto L9 and the Aito M9. The seriousness of this model is clear, as Xiaomi founder Lei Jun recently took part in extreme cold and high-altitude tests in the harsh Pamir Plateau in Xinjiang. This level of rigorous testing means the family-focused YU9 is already in the final stages before mass production begins.

Xiaomi is also pushing the limits of speed with the high-performance YU7 GT. This model, built on the existing YU7 platform, is engineered for one thing: peak driving performance. The development team is spending huge amounts of time perfecting the vehicle’s chassis tuning, making sure the suspension and steering are as sharp as possible.

They are also focusing on the limits of the electric drive system and advanced thermal management to keep the motors cool during high-stress driving. The YU7 GT has been seen many times going through demanding tests on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife track in Germany. The company expects the YU7 GT to be the vehicle that spearheads its expansion into the European market, positioning the speedy SUV against heavy hitters like the Tesla Model Y Performance.

The premium trio ends with a focus on executive luxury in the sedan category. The company is developing the SU7 L, an extended, high-end version of the existing SU7. Spy photos reveal a serious lengthening of the car behind the B-pillar, giving rear-seat passengers extra room. The SU7 L is a true land yacht, projected to be longer than 17.1 ft in total, with its wheelbase expected to stretch over 10.2 ft.

This massive size and increased interior space place the SU7 L in the realm of high-end executive transport. Xiaomi is clearly going for the most discerning buyers here, positioning the sedan to sit comfortably between the well-known Porsche Panamera and the even more exclusive, long-wheelbase Panamera Executive models.

This simultaneous development of the YU9 family SUV, the high-performance YU7 GT, and the luxurious SU7 L sedan comes at a critical moment for Xiaomi. By covering these three key segments at once, the company ensures that almost every type of new vehicle buyer will have a Xiaomi option to consider.
