Volvo

Volvo has some exciting news today for both future and present owners of its EVs. The company is introducing a "new-generation, new-look user experience" to new EX40 cars, previously seen in the EX30 and EX90.

This uses customer feedback as its basis, and it's "designed to be a safe and enjoyable way to interact with your car's central infotainment screen, more focused and personalized than its predecessor, with several Google services built-in".

You can put your favorite apps on the home screen for quick access, and the contextual bar changes what you see according to the situation. It also shows your most recently used apps. The driver display is updated as well, with a larger and clearer navigation view.

All new EX30, EX40, and EX90 models will ship with this update, and it will be available over-the-air for "millions of Volvo cars with Google built-in" later this year. And thanks to the new Snapdragon Cockpit chip in the new cars, the infotainment system will be "more than twice as fast" as the old one and "much more responsive" with up to ten times faster graphics generation. This should create a "lag-free" experience, according to Anders Bell, Volvo Cars' chief engineering and technology officer.

Finally, the EX30 and EX40 are getting Plug & Charge support in Europe. This will simplify the charging experience since all you'll need to do is plug the charger into the car, and billing occurs in the background automatically. No need to fiddle with cards or apps.

Plug & Charge is set up and activated via the car and you can find compatible charging stations using Google Maps in your car or the Volvo Cars app.
