Xiaomi CEO denies YU7 pricing rumors

Xiaomi

Xiaomi CEO and founder Lei Jun has come out to contradict the rumored pricing for the newly unveiled YU7 SUV during an investor conference. Over in China, rumors have been swirling about the YU7 essentially commanding a CNY 20,000 ($2,770) premium over the SU7, Xiaomi's first EV launched last year.

Thus, the YU7 would start at CNY 235,900 ($32,700) vs. the SU7's CNY 215,900 ($29,900). However, Lei Jun has outright claimed this is false, and the YU7's pricing won't be a matter so simple as to just tack on an extra CNY 20,000 onto the SU7's pricing.

He also revealed that the YU7's pricing hasn't been finalized at this moment - it will be around one to two days before the full launch. Strange as that may sound, it's basically always been the standard operating procedure at Xiaomi, including for smartphone launches, so it's nothing out of the ordinary. Additionally, Lei Jun clearly said the starting price for the YU7 will not be CNY 235,900, so now we're pretty much left in the dark, guessing.

The YU7 was presented last month and will come in three versions: RWD with a single motor producing 235 kW of power and 528 Nm of torque, Pro AWD with dual motors with a combined output of 365 kW and 690 Nm, and Max AWD with dual motors delivering 508 kW and 866 Nm.

Zero to 62 mph figures are 5.9 seconds, 4.27 seconds, and 3.2 seconds, respectively, while top speeds are 149 mph for the RWD and Pro AWD and 157 mph for the Max AWD. All models use an 800V system. The RWD and Pro AWD both have the same 96.3 kWh LFP battery with a CLTC range of 519 miles and 478 miles, respectively, while the Max AWD has a 101.7 kWh battery with a CLTC range of 472 miles.
