XPeng Announcement

XPeng’s first electric SUV to be based on the new SEPA 2.0 EV platform officially launched at the Shanghai Auto Show. The G6 SUV is built on the 800V architecture and will come with two propulsion versions and three battery options.

It’s hard to miss the bright orange XPeng G6, it looks like an emergency beacon screaming for attention. The color suits the car really well, there were G6 units in silver on display as well, but they just didn’t look any special.

The two powertrains on offer are a single electric motor with 218kW (292hp) and 440Nm of torque powering the rear wheels or a dual-motor AWD system with 358kW (460hp) and 660Nm of torque.

The dimensions of the G6 square it up against the Tesla Model Y almost perfectly. The G6 is 4.75 meters long, 1.92 meters wide, and 1.63 meters tall. Even the wheelbase is identical at 2.89 meters.

Shortly after the vehicle was unveiled, an internal price list was leaked which confirms the company is trying really hard to sway potential customers away from Tesla. The top-of-the-range model comes with LiDAR and XPeng’s own XNGP autonomous driving system.

The price list revealed the battery types offered for each model, the entry-trim gets a 66 kWh LFP pack and is CLTC rated for 590 km. The larger 87.5 kWh NMC battery packs are rated at 780 km for the single-motor versions and 700 km for dual-motor models. Thanks to the 800V architecture, the battery can add 300 km of range in just 10 minutes of DC fast charging.

XPeng G6 has been designed from the ground-up to be a global vehicle, the chassis apparently have been optimized by XPeng’s German team for a more “European feel”. The company claims the G6 meets European and North American high safety standards thanks to its advanced design. All that points to just one thing - G6 is on its way to Europe and the US.
