BMW

BMW introduced its iX2 fully-electric compact SUV a month ago and the now company announced the start of the production in its Regensburg factory in Germany. The factory is responsible for the entire X2 lineup, along with the BMW 1 Series and BMW X1.

For the past couple of months, BMW's engineers were working on integrating the drivetrain into one production line for all of the vehicle types - ICE, PHEV and BEV. Up to 1,000 BMW 1 Series, X1, X2 and iX2 units will now roll out of the factory every day.

BMW is able to reach that production capacity by implementing night shifts in three-shift operations. That's needed because all units sold worldwide come out of the Regensburg plant.

BMW also highlights that the Regensburg factory is the first in the industry to integrate an AI-powered end-to-end digitalized and automated process for inspection, processing and marking of painted vehicles.

By the end of the year, the carmaker will have invested €350 million in vehicle production in its Regensburg factory, securing jobs for around 500 employees.
