Ford teases a dirt-ready Mustang Mach-E

Ford

The concept of off-road-ready electric vehicles seems to be no longer just a pipe dream. Ford, with its latest video teaser, is painting an intriguingly muddy picture with an upcoming variant of the ever-so-popular Mustang Mach-E.

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2023, Ford is planning to pull up with a bouquet of Mustang breeds, ready to stir the air with something yet unseen - a Mustang Mach-E that's traded its urban asphalt manners for a slightly wilder spirit. No static show-off, this new version of the Mach-E is set to flaunt its ‘driving potential’, however ambiguous that might sound.

The video teaser reveals this new Mach-E model is no traditional pony. As the Mustang abandons the tarmac for a dirt track, it hints at a rather audacious identity – could this be a rally-ready configuration of a Mach-E GT, sporting a raised suspension and all-wheel drive?

Well, Ford isn't spilling any beans on the ‘how’. The new Mach-E incarnation is swathed in a colorful livery and appears to have grown a set of off-road-ready tires, looking quite prepared to let sparks fly as it bounds over rougher terrain. And let's not overlook the spruced-up GT body kit, complete with a larger rear spoiler and a different blocked grille.

At this point, we might well be dealing with an electric mule on a mission. But will it join the Mustang family as a legitimate member, or simply be a showpiece like the seven-motor, drift-happy Mustang Mach-E 1400 with its ludicrous 1,400-horsepower punch? Or maybe follow the footprints of the Mustang Lithium with its muscle-flexing over 900 horsepower?

Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, assures that this new creation carries the Mustang's spirit. The elusive Mach-E model will share the Goodwood limelight with the Mustang GT3, the road-legal Dark Horse, and the Ford Explorer EV, all set to make their dynamic debuts. But the real cake-topper could be the M-Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1, celebrating 50 golden years of FIA's World Rally Championship.

All said, as we await July 14, Ford's attempt at a fresh variant of the Mustang Mach-E promises an interesting shift in the electric vehicle narrative. Will it be a game-changer or just a dressed-up Mach-E? The Goodwood Festival of Speed is just around the corner and we’ll be paying extra attention to the new off-road Mech-E.
