Mitsubishi and Nissan established a partnership last year to share infrastructure and technology for electric vehicles in the US. In Australia, Mitsubishi is picking Foxtron as its partner for the upcoming EV hatchback.
Foxtron Bria
Foxtron is the car-making division of Foxconn, the manufacturer that produces iPhones and other devices. Reports suggest that Mitsubishi's car will primarily be based on the Bria. In fact, we will likely see the same hardware inside the future hot hatch.
Bria's base model is equipped with a rear-mounted motor with 220 peak horsepower, while the all-wheel drive version offers 400 hp, running from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Both versions carry a modest 57.5 kWh battery that's good for 321 miles per NEDC. The EPA readings will be much lower, though.
When it comes to charging, the small vehicle tops out at 134 kW, charging from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.
Of course, Mitsubishi will likely add some of its own personal styling to the car's exterior.
The new Mitsubishi EV is expected to hit Australian shores in the second half of this year, with no information about plans to bring it to other countries, at least for now.
