After wowing the automotive world with its SU7 electric sedan, Xiaomi is not hitting the brakes. The company is now steering its ambitions into the popular electric SUV segment with its brand-new model, the YU7. After unveiling the car only last week, it is set to make its public auto show debut at the 2025 Auto Shenzhen, which kicks off on May 31.
The YU7 is a five-seat mid-to-large-size electric SUV, and it first saw the light of day on May 22. For those eager to get a firsthand look, Xiaomi will feature the YU7 and its entire vehicle lineup at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show, also known as Auto Shenzhen 2025. The event will open its doors to the press on May 31, with public access from June 1 through June 8. Xiaomi's display can be found in Hall 6, Booth 06.
What's the big deal about another electric SUV? Xiaomi isn't just tossing another hat into an already crowded ring; it's making a calculated move. The YU7 measures an impressive 196.8 inches in length, 78.6 inches in width, and 63 inches in height, all resting on a generous 118 inches wheelbase.
Xiaomi plans to offer three distinct versions: the YU7 Standard, YU7 Pro, and YU7 Max, mirroring the strategy used for their SU7 sedan. The Standard and Pro variants will both come equipped with a 96.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Xiaomi claims this will deliver a CLTC range of 519 miles for the Standard model and 478 miles for the Pro.
The top-tier YU7 Max will feature a 101.7 kWh ternary lithium battery, aiming for a CLTC range of 472 miles. For context, the Tesla Model Y currently offers two versions in China with CLTC ranges of 593 kilometers and 719 kilometers, suggesting the YU7 could offer a significant advantage in how far it can travel on a single charge.
Xiaomi's entry into the electric car market has been surprisingly swift and impactful. The company launched its first EV, the SU7 sedan, on March 28, 2024, and quickly gained traction in China's fiercely competitive market. On February 27, 2025, the company unveiled the SU7 Ultra, a high-performance version of the sedan with a frankly astounding 1,548 hp. This rapid progress helped Xiaomi secure the No. 8 spot in global battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in the first quarter of 2025, according to market research firm TrendForce.
The upcoming showcase of the YU7 electric SUV at the Shenzhen auto show marks an important next step for Xiaomi. Successfully launching an SUV is important for volume sales in the current automotive landscape, where families and individuals alike gravitate towards the practicality and space offered by these larger electric vehicles. All eyes will now be on the July sales launch and the eventual reveal of its price tag, which will ultimately determine how warmly consumers welcome the YU7.
