Toyota

Toyota’s all-electric sedan bZ3 is clearly ready for its debut. A series of photos showing the production-ready car leaked from China, spoiling the company's surprise. Looking at the photos and comparing them to the bZ SDN concept shown last year, we can see the production car is almost identical.

The front shares design language with its bZ4X sibling, indicating this is the design we are going to be stuck with for next few years at least. Huge windscreen is joined by large side windows and a substantial rear window. A lot of glass means a lot of light which will make the car feel spacious and airy. It means a lot of heat in warmer climates as well.

The car in the photos comes in two-tone paint scheme, with black pillars and roof blending in with the glass and making it look smaller and lighter than it actually is. The whole car reminds us very much of the bZ4X with similar lights, similar lines - this is the new electric Toyota design language.

We didn’t know what the interior may look like until now - thanks to one quick and sneaky shot we can see the familiar steering wheel and vertical infotainment screen. There is what appears to be a digital instrument cluster placed a bit deeper behind the steering wheel. Its location was probably forced by the HUD and the steep windscreen that ends far ahead of the driver.

Overall - no surprises, Toyota stuck close to the concept car’s design and used the design we came to know and recognize from the bZ4X, for better or for worse.

The car is based on the same e-TNGA platform shared between Toyota, Subaru and Lexus. It’s the same architecture used by bZ4X, but the bZ3 will only come in the real-wheel drive option. Two motors will be available - 181 horsepower (135 kW) or 240 horsepower (179 kW). The battery pack powering the sedan will be provided by BYD and it will use the LFP chemistry with the blade-style battery cells.

I bet it is for their Toyota/Lexus customers who, most likely, won't feel any regrets, switching their hybrids for newer full EV version. Their overall design is fairly consistent when it comes to exterior and even interior. The only significa...
