What is it?

This is the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra - the fastest and most powerful version of Xiaomi's first EV. It sits above the SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max and has the specs to tower over pretty much any car out there.

We had the pleasure of seeing one from a safe distance back in March, but we're now within touching (and sitting inside) distance.

Let's get a few numbers out of the way. The SU7 and SU7 Pro offer 220 kW (299 hp), the Max is a serious step up with 495 kW (673 hp). The SU7 Ultra has 1138 kW (1548 hp) of power and a bonkers 1770 Nm (1305 lb-ft) of torque. Those figures even put Audi's RS e-tron GT performance - 680 kW (925 hp), 1027 Nm (757 lb-ft) - and Tesla's Model S Plaid - 760 kW (1020 hp), 1420 Nm (1047 lb-ft) - to shame.

Xiaomi made the insane figures possible by putting three of its own electric motors in the SU7 Ultra. At the back, there are two V8s with 578 hp, 425 kW, 635 Nm each, while at the front, there's a V6s with 374 hp, 275 kW, and 500 Nm.

The SU7 Ultra has a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph), and a 0-100 km/h that takes just 2 seconds.

The car draws power from a 93.7 kWh CATL Qilin 2.0 liquid-cooled 800V battery that can theoretically deliver up to 630 km (CLTC), but we doubt most people would drive the SU7 Ultra as efficiently.

At 2655 kg gross weight, stopping the SU7 Ultra requires serious brakes. Xiaomi fitted the car with huge carbon-ceramics (up to 430 mm) that can withstand heat of up to 1300°C (2370°F).

Xiaomi's choice of rubber is either the 21-inch Pirelli P Zero 5 or the semi-slick Pirelli Trofeo RS - a worthy hyper-performance tire to suit the high-performance nature of this beast.

But there's more to the car than simply big tires, big brakes, and big power. It may look similar, but the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is fundamentally different from its 600-something hp SU7 Max stablemate.

The Ultra is longer, wider, and a bit taller. It weighs about 155 kg more. Despite this, it has a carbon fiber roof, trunk, mirrors, and in around 3.7 m² inside the cabin - steering wheel, seat backs, doors, and console.

The car is also much more aerodynamic. Upfront, there's a big splitter on the bumper and ventilation panels for the motors and brakes.

Out back, the SU7 Ultra has a big rear wing that produces over 2,145 kg of downforce.

The wheels are larger on the Ultra at 21 inches compared to 19 inches and 20 inches on the other SU7 models. The suspension is also superior with the "Racing Package", which includes Bilstein EVO-R coilovers.

Interior

Let's take a look inside. We were fortunate enough to see both the Lightning Yellow and the Parrot Green models. Each car's interior differs slightly from the other. The Yellow is more brash and heavier on the accent colors. The Green model is more understated, if you could call an SU7 Ultra that.

We've already talked about the carbon fiber sprinkled around the cabin. But there's also some 5 m² of Italian Alcantara on the seats, wheel, the dashboard, and the door trim. Alcantara isn't just an aesthetic choice - it's 50% lighter than leather and doesn't glare under direct sunlight.

The seats have bigger bolsters to hold you during fast driving. But the SU7 Ultra isn't an unpleasant thing to sit inside - the seats are heated, ventilated for cooling, and have a massage function.

The steering wheel means business with a flat top and bottom. It has a racing 12-hour color-accented marker and a boost button on the bottom right side. The wheel is trimmed in both carbon fiber and Alcantara.

There are two displays in the cockpit - a 7.1-inch digital cluster and a 16.1-inch OLED touchscreen in the middle. The touchscreen is nice and sharp with a 3K resolution.

The center console has physical controls for the suspension and wing adjustment.

There are also physical controls for the climate control, the ventilation, and the heating.

Notice the 50W wireless charging pads on the center console.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has an impressive 25-speaker surround system, which, coupled with the double-glazed windows, should ensure an immersive driving experience.

The rear bench is plenty wide and comfortable, and it's practical to with a 60:40 split for carrying longer items.

Being a hypercar doesn't mean the SU7 Ultra can't hold your luggage. You get a combined 559 liters of space - 454 liters in the trunk and 105 liters in the frunk!

Should you get one?

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is still only available in China. At the time of this article, the SU7 Ultra starts from CNY 530,000 (€64,000, $74,000, £54,000), which isn't at all a bad price!

Xiaomi has strongly indicated that its intention is to bring all SU7 models to the global stage. The company's global expansion is projected for 2027, which makes us feel really hopeful!
