Details of the new XPeng GX flagship released by MIIT

XPeng teased its newest flagship vehicle, the XPeng GX, only a few days ago, and until now, we had only a few photos to look at. It was enough for many people to note that it looks a lot like a Range Rover. Thanks to official government documents from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), we now have the actual facts. The XPeng GX will come as both a pure electric model and an EREV version that uses a small gas engine to charge the battery on the go.

In China, every new car has to go through a public comment period before it can be sold. The XPeng GX just entered this stage, which is basically the last hurdle before it hits the showrooms. The paperwork shows that XPeng plans to build the SUV at its factory in Guangzhou, and there are six different versions listed in the files, split evenly between pure battery power and the extended-range versions.

If you like big cars, the XPeng GX will certainly catch your eye. It is a large, six-seat SUV designed for families or anyone who needs a lot of space. The car measures 207.3 inches long and 78.7 inches wide. It stands 70.9 inches tall, and has a 122.6 inches wheelbase. It is a heavy machine, too. The version with the extra gas engine weighs 6,371 lb - that’s quite a lot of metal to move around.

Despite its size, the XPeng GX is not slow. Both the battery-only and the range-extended models can reach a top speed of 124 mph. For the versions with the range extender, XPeng uses a 1.5-liter engine that acts like a portable generator. This engine produces 110 kW of power just to keep the battery full. The actual driving is done by two electric motors. The front motor puts out 210 kW, while the rear motor adds another 160 kW.

For those who want to skip gas entirely, there are two main setups on offer. You can get a version with just one motor in the back that delivers 270 kW. If you want more grip and speed, there is an all-wheel-drive version that adds a 160 kW motor to the front. These models use different types of batteries, including lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and ternary lithium packs. All of these batteries come from CALB. The pure electric versions are a bit lighter than the ones with gas engines, weighing between 5,930 lb and 6,217 lb.

XPeng is stuffing its new flagship with four Turing computer chips. Together, they have a computing power of 3,000 TOPS. The company is using all that power to offer Level 4 autonomous driving (which is already being tested). This means the car is being designed to handle most driving tasks on its own without a human needing to take over. It is a big step toward a future where electric cars do the driving for us.

The timing for this launch is very important for the brand. XPeng had a great year in 2025, selling 429,445 vehicles. That was more than double what they sold the year before. However, the start of 2026 has been a little rocky. In January, they only delivered 20,011 cars, which was a big drop from December. The whole car industry in China is seeing a bit of a slowdown right now. XPeng is hoping the GX will help them reach the big goal of selling up to 600,000 cars this year.

We should see the XPeng GX officially go on sale within the next few months. It is a bold move to build such a large, high-tech SUV, but it shows that the market for premium EVs is still heating up. Whether people choose the pure electric version or the one with the backup engine, they will be getting one of the most advanced cars on the road.
